10 Fastest Motorcycles from 2020
Posted by Crystal Stevens on 2021 Jan 4th
Fast. Faster. Fastest. It’s a term synonymous with any type of motorcycle, but even truer for sports bikes, which are getting faster every year.
Sports Bikes vs Motorcycle
Sports bike is a term used for a motorcycle that is optimized for speed, acceleration, braking, and cornering on paved roads. They are often less comfortable and less fuel economic to other traditional motorcycles. They are also a little harder to maintain and more difficult to work on due to fitted bodywork.
"Soichiro Honda wrote in the owner's manual of the 1959 Honda CB92 Benly Super Sport that, 'Primarily, essentials of the motorcycle consists in the speed and the thrill,' while Cycle World's Kevin Cameron says that, 'A sport bike is a motorcycle whose enjoyment consists mainly from its ability to perform on all types of paved highway – its cornering ability, its handling, its thrilling acceleration and braking power, even (dare I say it?) its speed.'1"
Speed Classification
Power, weight, aerodynamics, gearing. These factors will intermingle to determine the maximum speed of a sports bike.
There are three categories for classing a sports bike: lightweight, middleweight, and superbike. It is not universal, but they are commonly used. These category classifications are used to group similar engine displacement, horsepower, and intended use. Most of the bikes on this list are easily classified as super bikes.
