Rain-proof Motorcycle Gear Checklist
Posted by Crystal Stevens on 2021 Apr 27th
If you live in the lower mainland, or a similar climate, you know how much annual rain there is. Even on the nicest of spring/fall days, there is a chance of rain. The number one thing anyone can do is to be prepared for the chance of getting caught on your motorcycle ride.
Everyone has their own preferred gear and bike setup depending on your style and needs during rides. But there are always options for adding some waterproof protection to your regular gear or in your storage.
Complete our head-to-toe motorcycle rain gear checklist to ensure your next ride is comfortable and safe!
- Head
Your helmet will keep your head dry, but what issues might it cause? Try a orange or yellow colored face shield to increase contrast in poor visibility conditions. If your face shield fogs up often, try defogging wipes or switch to goggles or safety glasses.
- Body
Wear high visual waterproof gear. Whether you pick a one or two piece waterproof rain suit, make sure it has high visibility areas, or add some to boots and helmet. Also, stand up on the pegs now and then to clear the rain from your lap.
- Hands
Make sure you have waterproof gloves. You can always keep this as an extra pair in your storage pack. Bring a towel for wiping your wet hands, in case you need to take off wet gloves and then get them back on.
- Boots
A good pair of waterproof motorcycle boots are useful for more than just rainy weather. You can also store some waterproof boot covers in your pack, in case you get caught out in your regular boots.
- Belongings
Depending on your luggage or pack situation, you might be set up well for a good storm’s thrashing. A good piece of advice is to always Ziploc anything you care about to ensure maximum water protection. If you have the room, you can always pack a compact umbrella and a blanket if you need to pull over and wait out a terrible storm.
