Head to Toe Women’s Motorcycle Gear and Accessories

Posted by Crystal Stevens on 2020 Sep 16th

Whether you are a hard-core biker or a leisure rider, there are many options for women’s motorcycle gear from head to toe, not to mention useful accessories to use if you are on your own ride or doubling with your fella.

In order to choose the best gear for you, it is helpful to know what gear is available as well as why it might be used. It is rather obvious why a high quality helmet will come in handy, but having two sets of gloves, one for summer and one for fall, is something a seasoned and prepared rider would have.

Importance vs Use

When choosing women’s motorcycle gear, it is important to know how it will be used and that it is going to perform well for you, and not just look good. Important items, like a thick jacket or good riding boots, will help keep you safe on the road while built in headphones or a saddle bag are useful on longer rides.

The ability to choose an item that has added features or a stylish appeal is a bonus. Wearing your favourite color, or your bike brand’s logo, are the details that will make it more you.

Here is a list of important or extra women’s motorcycle gear to think about before your next ride.

Head to Toe Gear

Helmet = Must have

Protect your head. Enough said. But there are many styles and accessories to think about when you are buying one. Once you’ve decided on a style:

  • Full face
  • Half Motorcycle
  • Modular
  • Dual Sport
  • Open Face

Once you’ve decided on whether you have a visor attached, you will know what type of glasses you might need. You can also have headsets and headphones installed into the helmet to ensure you can communicate with your partner or listen to your favourite tunes while on a long ride.

Jacket and Pants = Must

Good quality jacket and pants will keep you warm while out on the windy road, but they will also save you from getting wind or sun burn and from bad skid marks in case of collisions. You can wear jeans for pants or opt for a matching all leather ensemble, if that is your style. You can even match the bike or its brand!

Gloves = Recommended

Whether you are the driver or holding on back, your gloves can not only keep your hands warm, but serve a function as well. Gloves with touch screen capability will allow you to easily use your phone during stops.

Boots = Recommended

Short or tall, biker boots are built for being on the road. New linings are moisture-wicking and antibacterial. Some leather boots offer construction level quality for long-term durability, and protection.

Base or Mid Layers = Nice to Have

Depending on the frequency and climate of your rides, you could invest in some layers that keep you insulated during colder rides. They are just like your grandpa’s long johns of ole days, except they are lighter while being high performance.

Hard Shell Protection = Nice to Have

If you are a serious biker, embarking on the open road for lengthy periods or on less desirable routes, you should consider investing in high-density or composite hard shell protection. It will provide impact and abrasion protection that other materials and fabrics cannot.

While there is gear to cover you from head to toe, there is also some bike gear that could make the ride more comfortable or functional for you.

Bike Gear

Pack = Recommended

Having a backpack, saddle bag, or a luggage tank bag, will keep your valuables neatly tucked on your ride. Depending on your trip length and whether you are packing for multiple people, any combination of these storage options can be used.

Blanket = Nice to Have

If you are heading for the road less traveled, it's nice to have extra supplies, like a thick serape blanket.

Seat Cover = Nice to Have

Another customization on your bike could be a comfortable seat cover.

Several items are important for your safety, and are required, but you can choose ones that suit your style as well as your needs.

In the end, if you don’t find something you particularly like, you can outsource customization of leather or jean or airbrushing to have a unique and functional piece all to yourself.
