Update your motorcycle seat cover with a Luimoto Seat cover

Posted by Crystal Stevens on 2020 Nov 4th

Focusing on the exterior of your motorcycle, one of the most likely places to wear out often is your motorcycle seat cover. If you plan to maintain and keep your motorcycle for a long time, then you will probably replace the motorcycle seat a few times. They are likely to wear out, crack, and tear from extensive use.

Leather and vinyl are the two most common materials used for motorcycle seat covers. Leather is the highest quality material and should be used for long trip riders. If you mostly take short trips around town, a vinyl seat will still be comfortable but not durable if left outside for long periods.

How to replace your motorcycle seat cover

Tools you’ll need:

  • Staple gun (air, electric or manual)
  • 30-50 6mm to 10mm staples
  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Staple puller or pliers
  • Medium to large paper clips (optional)
  • Heat gun or blow dryer (optional)
  • Tape
  • Scissors
  • Patience

Process:

  1. First uninstall your existing seat cover from the base and foam.
  2. Inspect the Luimoto seat cover
  3. Slip the seat cover over the seat
    • Don't be afraid to stretch the edges to wrap the seams under the seat
  4. Ensure the seat cover is centered by locating the V notches
    • You can use a pen to mark these locations on your seat pan
    • Most seat cover models have reference areas which match up to certain areas of the seat pan
  5. Now the seat cover has been slipped over, centered, and aligned, it is time to put your first staple in the back of the seat.
  6. Work the back corner of the seat cover over the foam/plastic evenly. Ensure the sewn seam is lined up and under the seat. Put in a staple.
    • Repeat this for the other side. Ensure everything is pulled evenly on both sides. If it is not even, take out the staple and try again.
  7. Continue to massage and work the corner down onto the seat pan, hold the fabric in place with one hand, and staple with the other hand.
  8. Repeat the same process for the front of the seat.
  9. Now work the sides of the seat. Evenly massage and stretch the seat cover down and secure the fabric with a staple.
    • Use the references on the seat cover for proper alignment.
  10. Repeat this for the other side. Ensure everything is pulled evenly on both sides. If it is not even, take out the staples and try again.
  11. Do a final inspection and ensure everything looks even. Massage and staple any air pockets you are unhappy with.
  12. Now finish off securing the rest of your seat cover with staples.
  13. Enjoy your new seat cover!
